FAQ
Q1: What does RRB NTPC stand for?
RRB NTPC stands for Railway Recruitment Board Non-Technical Popular Categories. It is a centralized exam conducted to recruit eligible candidates for various non-technical posts like clerks, typists, commercial apprentices, and train managers across different zones of the Indian Railways.
Q2: What is the main difference between Graduate and Undergraduate posts in RRB NTPC?
The primary differences are the minimum educational qualification and the starting pay scale.
* Undergraduate posts require a minimum of a 12th-standard (+2) pass.
* Graduate posts require a recognized university degree.
Graduate posts generally offer higher initial salaries and responsibilities.
Q3: Can a final-year college student apply for the Graduate-level RRB NTPC posts?
Generally, no. In almost all RRB recruitment cycles, candidates must possess the prescribed educational qualification certificate on or before the closing date of the online application registration. Candidates awaiting their final results are typically not eligible to apply.
Q4: Is there a negative marking system in the RRB NTPC exam?
Yes. RRB exams traditionally follow a strict negative marking policy for objective-type questions. For every incorrect answer, 1/3rd (one-third) of the marks assigned to that question are deducted. There is no penalty for leaving a question unanswered.
Q5: What subjects are tested in the RRB NTPC Computer Based Test (CBT)?
Both Stage 1 and Stage 2 CBT exams test candidates across three core sections:
* Mathematics (Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, etc.)
* General Intelligence & Reasoning (Puzzles, Analogies, Syllogisms, etc.)
* General Awareness (Current Affairs, History, Geography, General Science, etc.)
Q6: Are the typing skill tests mandatory for all RRB NTPC posts?
No. The Typing Skill Test is post-specific. It is mandatory only for clerical and secretarial roles such as Senior Clerk-cum-Typist, Junior Accounts Assistant-cum-Typist, and Accounts Clerk-cum-Typist. Posts like Goods Train Manager or Commercial-cum-Ticket Clerk do not require a typing test.
Q7: Can I apply to multiple Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) in the same notification?
No. Candidates are permitted to submit only one application across all RRBs for a specific Centralised Employment Notification (CEN). Submitting multiple applications to different RRBs will result in the rejection of all your applications. However, you can apply for multiple posts within your chosen RRB if you meet the eligibility criteria.
