AGE LIMIT RRB ALP 2026
- Minimum Age: 18 years

Category-wise Age Limit & Date of Birth:
- UR / EWS: 18–30 years — Born between 02 July 1996 and 01 July 2008
- OBC (NCL): 18–33 years — Born between 02 July 1993 and 01 July 2008
- SC / ST: 18–35 years — Born between 02 July 1991 and 01 July 2008
- Other Eligible Categories: Additional age relaxation is applicable as per the rules prescribed by RRB.
Note: The date of birth must match the candidate’s Matriculation/10th Class certificate. Age relaxation is subject to the conditions specified in CEN 01/2026.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA RRB ALP 2026
Candidates must meet one of the following qualification routes prescribed in CEN 01/2026:
Matriculation / SSLC plus ITI from an NCVT/SCVT-recognised institution in the prescribed trades.
- Matriculation / SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the prescribed trades.
- Matriculation / SSLC plus a three-year Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or Automobile Engineering, or a combination of these engineering disciplines, from a recognised institution.
- A Degree in the specified engineering disciplines is also acceptable in lieu of the Diploma.
Prescribed ITI trades include Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Millwright/Maintenance Mechanic, Mechanic (Radio & TV), Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Wireman, Tractor Mechanic, Armature & Coil Winder, Mechanic (Diesel), Heat Engine, Turner, Machinist, and Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Mechanic.
Candidates awaiting final results of the prescribed qualification after the closing date are not eligible.

RRB ALP Selection Process and Exam Pattern
CBT-1
The test has 75 objective-type questions for 75 marks and a duration of 60 minutes. There is negative marking of 1/3 mark for every wrong answer.

The 75 questions are distributed across these three subjects, Mathematics, Mental Ability, General Science. Subject-wise question distribution may be referred to the latest official RRB notification. General Science covers Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences at approximately Class 10 level.
Shortlisting for CBT-2: Candidates will be shortlisted RRB-wise and community-wise based on normalized CBT-1 marks and merit. The number of candidates shortlisted will generally be limited to 15 times the number of vacancies notified for each RRB.

Part-A duration is 90 minutes. Minimum qualifying percentage is 40% for UR/EWS, 30% for OBC (NCL), 30% for SC and 25% for ST. Negative marking of 1/3 mark applies for each wrong answer.
CBT-2 – Part B

Candidates must secure at least 35% in Part-B, irrespective of community/category. Only Part-A marks are used for shortlisting for subsequent stages, subject to qualifying Part-B.
Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
Candidates shortlisted for CBAT must qualify in each test battery/section. The CBAT is conducted in English and Hindi and has no negative marking. Candidates shortlisted for CBAT must submit the prescribed Self-Screening Medical Declaration Report on the day of CBAT, duly signed by a General Physician and Eye Specialist. A minimum T-score of 42 in each test battery is required to qualify. The merit list is prepared only among candidates who qualify the CBAT.
Final Merit – Major Update for CEN 01/2026
The final merit weightage has changed from the earlier 70:30 pattern. Under CEN 01/2026, CBT-2 Part-A and CBAT carry equal weightage:

Document Verification (DV)
Candidates who meet the required conditions and are shortlisted on the basis of the applicable merit criteria will be called for Document Verification. Candidates must produce original documents and certificates supporting their educational qualification, age, category and other applicable claims.
Medical Examination
Appointment to the Assistant Loco Pilot post is subject to qualifying the prescribed Railway medical fitness requirements. The medical standard specified for ALP under CEN 01/2026 is A-1. Candidates found medically unsuitable for ALP are not offered an alternative appointment under the notification.
