About the CDS Exam
The Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) twice a year for recruitment into:
- Indian Military Academy (IMA)
- Indian Naval Academy (INA)
- Air Force Academy (AFA)
- Officers’ Training Academy (OTA)
Eligibility Criteria for CDS Exam
Nationality: Candidate must be a citizen of India.
Educational Qualification
(i) For I.M.A. and Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai — Degree of a recognised University or equivalent.
(ii) For Indian Naval Academy— Degree in Engineering from a recognised University/Institution.
(iii) For Air Force Academy—Degree of a recognised University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or Bachelor of Engineering.
Note: Final-year students can also apply, provided they have no backlogs up to the last declared semester and submit proof of graduation at the time of course commencement.

IMA: 19–24 years
INA: 19–22 years
AFA: 19–23 years
OTA: 19–25 years

CDS Exam Negative Marking Scheme
